PESHAWAR: A team of 45 male and female DMG probationary officers headed by Additional Director Afzal Latif was given a detailed briefing about Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) of Malakand division and tribal areas during their visit to Emergency Response Unit (ERU) office on Thursday. ERU Members Abid Majeed and Adnan Zafar conducted the briefing held at the ERU situation room.
Male members have been assigned to the various IDP camps established in various parts of NWFP where they will assist the camp incharges in providing humanitarian relief to IDPs. They will directly report to the ERU office.
Female members will form a special psycho-social support group, which will be responsible for providing counseling and relief to women and children, who have undergone tremendous psychological trauma due to the ongoing crisis. The female probationary officers will use their skills and energies to help them cope with their emotional upheavals.
The ERU has been formed by the government of NWFP for coordinating and controlling relief activities for IDPs in camps and outside camps. Provincial Relief Commissioner Muhammad Azam Khan is incharge of ERU. He has already issued instruction to all the concerned organizations to provide maximum possible facilities to the IDPs living in camps and outsides camps.
