The Emergency Response Unit (ERU) has prepared a return plan for the IDPs and
presented it at the meeting held in the foreign office, Islamabad.
The Chief Secretary Javed Iqbal Khan and Chief Economist Shakil Qadir unveiled the
plan. The participants appreciated the proactive approach of the government for
devising an institutional mechanism for development and rehabilitation activities
related to IDPs and expressed their satisfaction.
The return plan of the IDPs will be finalised in a few days. All the concerned
authorities will be taking part in the return process. The plan will include
transportation, Non Food Items, Food Items and cash grants to the IDPs.
An early recovery meeting in this connection was held in which the provincial
government prepared its plan for ERU and requested the concerned departments to
align their projects and programs within the government strategic frame work.
The meeting also decided to conduct a rapid need assessment of the people in order
to find out the exact nature of intervention.
As ERU has been especially established by the government of NWFP to ensure provision
of relief to the IDPs and to control and monitor their activities in the province.
Provincial Relief Commissioner and Incharge ERU Muhammad Azam Khan said that the
provincial government is trying its best to make the relief operation more effective
and at the same time it would encourage the safe return of the IDPs to their areas.
ERU will provide all-out support to the families, he reassured.
