The NWFP Government has requested and authorized UNHCR to receive donations from the private sector in Pakistan for its operation to help Pakistanis displaced by conflict in the province, in cash and through in-kind contributions.
The UNHCR has established a dedicated bank account – the UNHCR IDP Relief Fund – at all Standard Chartered Banks, to receive cash donations from Pakistanis who would like to contribute to its operations. The A/C no is 08-7316410-02 and swift code is: SCBLPKKX
In addition, the UNHCR has established a Relief Bank in Nowshera to receive and distribute donated goods to IDPs. The Relief Bank is located at Zaidi Colony (formerly Attock mills), opposite the Khishko Chungy bus stop, Mardan Road, Nowshera.
According to the UNHCR sources, the most urgently needed items are, new summer clothing for men, women and children; and clothing fabrics. Other important items are pillows, sheets, soap, detergent, toothpaste, soap, and water coolers. The officials have asked the public to refrain from sending second-hand clothes. They have also asked them to provide non-electric coolers for water storage.
Meanwhile, the NWFP Chief Secretary Javed Iqbal in a statement has said: “Given the enormous scale of this humanitarian crisis, we have asked the UNHCR to mobilize all resources possible to meet the urgent needs of the displaced. We urge Pakistanis to help their fellow citizens by contributing to the relief efforts. Details about making donations are available on Emergency Response Unit’s website www.helpidp.org”, the statement concluded. |
