PESHAWAR: Chief Secretary, NWFP Javed Iqbal has summoned an emergency meeting to be attended by the representatives of all the concerned government departments, UNHCR, NADRA, Social Welfare Dept, UBL and all other partners on Thursday to discuss anomalies witnessed during the relief operation for the IDPs of Malakand Division.
According to an ERU handout, the Chief Secretary has taken serious notice of delay in issuance of cash cards to IDPs, which is the main reason of non-payment of compensation to many returning IDPs. Provincial Relief Commissioner and Incharge of Emergency Response Unit Muhammad Azam Khan had already issued directives to speed up their activities so the provincial government is able to send and settle the IDPs in their respective areas.
Representatives of all concerned departments will be asked to explain their position vis-Ã -vis delay in issuance of cash cards to IDPs so the provincial government is able to reassess its policies.
The meeting, which will be held at the office of Chief Secretary will discuss the issue of making the relief operation even more effective and result-oriented. It is relevant to mention here that ERU had first brought this matter to the notice of the concerned quarters after receiving numerous IDPs’ complaints on its helplines that they were facing difficulties in getting cash cards and other necessary facilities.
